Associate, English Program

The position of an Associate in the English Program offers creative, analytical, and energetic people the opportunity to be an integral part of Pratham’s work in transforming education across the country. Working within the English Team, the Associate will engage in three primary domains:

  1. Developing compelling course content and engaging learning materials

  2. Building and reinforcing teachers’ capacities via online and offline workshops

  3. Testing content feasibility, tracking field progress, and documenting program outcomes

The Associate’s key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Content Development

  • Conduct research to develop effective and engaging content in conformity with the standards and requirements of a program, catering to learners at diverse proficiency levels acquiring English as a second language.

  • Innovate instructional strategies and incorporate basic educational technology into content development.

  • Contemplate inclusive and dynamic training approaches, design modules, and implement training programs to equip teachers with content knowledge and gainful instructional strategies.

Research and Evaluation

  • Collaborate with educators, subject specialists, policymakers, and other professionals to develop processes that promote engaging and learner-centric pedagogical practices in second language acquisition. Additionally, contribute to the development of high-quality curricula and educational materials.

  • Develop and adapt tools that identify learning gaps and learning styles and tailor solutions to program requirements.

  • Read and examine the current and past national and international researches and trends in the field of second language acquisition and broader educational contexts in India with the focus on determining the most optimal trajectories.

Monitoring and Documentation

  • Undertake visits to program locations periodically in order to gauge classroom issues, support teachers, and compile reports on crucial field categories.

  • Encourage teachers to initiate curriculum improvement by furnishing the required resources and establishing frameworks for constructive dialogues on curriculum refinement.

Through extensive field visits dedicated to piloting, testing, and implementing content, the position will impart a holistic understanding of educational challenges in India, particularly in teaching English as a second language. The Associate is anticipated to swiftly gain insights into the field and actively contribute to the development, editing, design, proofreading, formatting, and distribution of English content.

Location: The Associate will be based at Pratham’s office at Safdarjung Enclave, New Delhi, with extensive travel to program locations.

Qualifications, Skills, And Experience

Required

  • Undergraduate degree or higher in any field

  • Exceptional command of oral and written English, with a discerning eye for creating, editing, and appraising content

  • Ability to communicate fluently in Hindi

  • Ability to thrive in group dynamics of all scales and cultivate rapport with individuals hailing from a broad spectrum of academic, socio-economic, linguistic, and cultural backgrounds

  • Strong planning skills and creative intelligence

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal oversight, adeptly managing high-pressure work environments, and consistently meeting tight deadlines.

  • Strong interest in the goals of Pratham

  • Willingness to travel regularly and extensively to the rural areas of India, with limited amenities

Preferred

  • Experience in content creation for English Language Learners

  • 1-2 years of prior work experience in a similar role in either the development or private sector firms

  • Ability to communicate in more than one Indian language

Compensation

  • Remuneration: ₹38,000-42,000 per month (CTC); negotiable based on the experience and skill set of the applicant

  • Travel, food, and lodging costs for work-related travel outside base location shall be separately borne or reimbursed on actuals by Pratham.
